TASKMASTER at Sidlesham

“I’d heard about the Taskmaster shenanigans at Sidlesham so wanted to see for myself what was going on. I was blown away by the positivity, teamwork and creativity of the kids. The teachers were very impressive too! Massively inspired - I’m hoping to pass on some of their ideas to my own kids’ school and others around the country. Thank you Sidlesham Primary!”

Why we use

TM Week.png

Taskmaster is a comedy TV show hosted by Greg Davies and Alex Horne. On the show, contestants are set a series of hilarious tasks to complete either on their own or as part of a team. In school, we use Taskmaster as an inclusive and engaging way to develop teamwork, resilience, problem solving, creativity and reasoning skills. Everyone gets the chance to shine by using Taskmaster in school because the tasks are designed to play to lots of different strengths so it's great for improving self-belief and well-being. Our innovative work has led to some incredible experiences for our children including a special assembly from the creator of the show, Alex Horne, who was also interviewed by the children on Sidlesham Radio. Listen to Alex Horne on Sidlesham Radio here.

TM Week.png

Every February, during Children's Mental Week, we hold Taskmaster Week at Sidlesham. The children compete in their House teams to earn points over the week by working together. The tasks are designed to encourage the children to value everyone's input and play to a variety of strengths. During Taskmaster Week everyone gets the chance to shine. The Friday sees the children given the chance to Dress to Express themselves, dressing how they wish while raising money for, children's mental health charity, Place2Be. In 2024 Place2Be and Taskmaster Education asked the children of Sidlesham to judge a task that some of their ambassadors had attempted. This is the resulting video

School Tasking is an outreach project which is led by the Law School at Warwick University and is now being run by 30 universities around the UK. The project began with research gathered from Sidlesham, with researchers visiting the school to see Taskmaster Week in action and interviewing our children. In recent years, as School Tasking has grown, our Year 5 cohorts have had the opportunity to be the Taskmasters and judge the efforts of children from different parts of the country as well as attending Warwick University to judge the finals, live. Learn more about the School Tasking project in this article from The Law Teacher journal by Dr Ali Struthers.

TM Club Logo.png

Taskmaster Club is an after school which runs every year with Mr Pledger as the Taskmaster and Alex Horne, the show's host and creator, as his virtual assistant. Each week the children are set a range of tasks to get them thinking creatively, working as a team, justifying their choices and having a whole lot of fun. All KS2 children are welcome to join the club and you can sign you child up by visiting TaskmasterEducation.com/clubs and using our school's unique number - A2WOK.
