The Sidlesham Curriculum
At Sidlesham Primary School, our curriculum is designed to provide a rich, broad and ambitious education for all pupils.
Our aim is simple: to ensure every child develops the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to succeed at the next stage of their education and beyond.
Curriculum Intent
Our curriculum is carefully planned to ensure that:
-
all pupils gain secure knowledge across a wide range of subjects
-
learning builds over time through clear sequencing and progression
-
key concepts are revisited to deepen understanding
-
vocabulary is developed across all areas of learning
-
all pupils, including those with additional needs, can succeed
We follow the EYFS Framework and the National Curriculum (2014), adapted to meet the needs of our mixed-age classes.
Curriculum Implementation
Our curriculum is organised to ensure full coverage and strong progression:
-
EYFS follows a one-year cycle, building strong foundations for learning
-
KS1 and KS2 follow a carefully planned three-year rolling programme
-
subjects are taught both discretely and through meaningful links where appropriate
Teachers:
-
adapt learning to meet the needs of all pupils
-
explicitly teach vocabulary and key knowledge
-
provide opportunities for pupils to apply their learning
We enrich learning through trips, visitors, clubs and themed events, helping children make connections and develop a wider understanding of the world.
Curriculum Impact
We regularly review our curriculum to ensure it is effective and meets the needs of all pupils.
We monitor impact through:
-
lesson visits and book looks
-
pupil voice
-
assessment and progress data
-
discussions with staff and subject leaders
As a result, our pupils:
-
develop secure knowledge across subjects
-
become confident and independent learners
-
are well prepared for the next stage of their education
They leave Sidlesham as curious, resilient individuals who are ready to succeed.
