Bushcraft
At Sidlesham Primary School, we are fortunate to have our own woodland on site, allowing all pupils to take part in regular bushcraft and forest learning experiences.
These sessions are a valued part of our wider curriculum, helping children to develop confidence, independence and a strong connection to the natural world.

What Children Learn
Through our forest learning sessions, pupils:
-
develop practical skills, including the safe use of tools
-
learn to take managed risks in a safe and supportive environment
-
build resilience, confidence and independence
-
explore creativity through outdoor activities
-
develop an understanding of how to care for the environment
Activities include den building, fire lighting, tool use, nature art and exploration.

Why it Matters
Spending time outdoors plays an important role in children’s development.
It supports:
-
physical health and wellbeing
-
social skills and teamwork
-
problem-solving and independence
-
positive attitudes towards the environment
We believe these experiences help to shape confident, capable learners who are ready for the wider world.
Being Prepared
Children take part in sessions throughout the year and in all weathers.
We ask that pupils come prepared with suitable outdoor clothing, including wellies and warm layers, so they can fully enjoy the experience.
What Our Children Say
“Our forest sessions are one of our favourite parts of the week. We love building dens and exploring the woodland!”
