E-Safety

At Sidlesham Primary School, keeping children safe online is a key part of our safeguarding responsibility.

We teach pupils how to use technology safely, responsibly and respectfully, both in school and at home.

Our Approach

Online safety is taught through our curriculum, including computing and PSHE.

Children learn how to:

  • stay safe when using the internet

  • recognise risks and report concerns

  • use technology responsibly

  • understand how to protect their personal information

We regularly revisit these messages to ensure pupils develop secure and safe habits.

Supporting Parents

We recognise that keeping children safe online is a shared responsibility between school and home.

We encourage parents and carers to:

  • talk regularly with their child about their online activity

  • know what devices their child is using

  • set clear expectations around screen time and online behaviour

  • use parental controls where available

If you would like support or advice, please contact the school.

Top Tips for Online Safety

  • Keep devices in shared family spaces where possible

  • Set clear rules about when and how devices can be used

  • Check age restrictions on apps, games and social media

  • Encourage your child to speak to you if something worries them

  • Remind children never to share personal information online

Gaming and Devices

Many devices and apps include parental controls which can help you manage what your child can access.

We recommend:

  • setting up child accounts with correct age information

  • enabling parental controls on devices and apps

  • regularly reviewing settings as your child grows

This helps ensure children are using technology in a safe and age-appropriate way.

Reporting Concerns

If you or your child are concerned about something that has happened online, it is important to act quickly.

You can:

  • speak to the school

  • report concerns to CEOP (Child Exploitation and Online Protection)

https://www.ceop.police.uk

All concerns will be taken seriously and handled sensitively.
