Mrs Koiston’s Assembly: How Do Our Choices Help to Keep Everyone Safe?

This week, we moved on to the third of our three school rules: Safe.

We explored our big question: How do our choices help to keep everyone safe?

The children became “choice detectives”, helping Charlie think through everyday situations at school. Our detective move was simple: Pause. Who needs help?

We considered choices such as walking rather than rushing in the corridor, stopping when a playground game becomes too rough and telling an adult when something is broken. One tricky clue encouraged us to look beyond what happened: if nobody got hurt, did that necessarily mean the choice was safe?

We also thought about what could help Charlie when he felt cross and what to do if a friend felt worried. We explored how pausing, finding support and speaking to a trusted adult can help us look after ourselves and each other.

We learned that being safe includes helping people feel secure, supported and able to learn. Our everyday choices can make a difference, and asking for help is a confident and responsible thing to do.

Our mission for this week is:

Make one choice that helps somebody else feel safe and able to learn.

We began putting this into practice straight away by thinking about how to leave the hall safely.

You might like to ask your child: What choice could you make to help somebody else feel safe?

Growing together in ambition, confidence, and kindness.
